Our FAQ's
We've been breeding purebred Maine Coons for 10 years (since 2014). This breed is very sensitive to human contact and if kittens are raised correctly inside the home, under foot they are much more confident. We feel we have perfected the process with all kittens being born in our bedroom and stay there for 3 full weeks. Then they are advanced into a 10"x10" room with tunnels, beds and toys to explore. They stay in this room (which is next to our office) where we keep constant eyes on them for a full two weeks. At 5 weeks of age, they have full access to the entire upstairs where we basically live 24/7. Finally, at 7 weeks of age we open up the downstairs to them where they learn to use a spiral staircase and have over 2,000 sf to explore. All of this is extremely important for the end result of who they become as adults. We imprint confidence from the first breath they take because all kittens are born into our loving hands. We videotape all deliveries so you can bond with your baby from the very beginning.
We specialize in American Maine Coon cats.
All our breeding cats go through a regimen of medical testing starting with genetics which identifies 76 different "hidden" ailments. Plus, many important factors such as blood type and agouti. Second, before any cat is released for breeding, they must have a full echo cardiogram by a licensed vet cardiologist. You can find all test results on each individual cat on our website under studs or queens Our Studs - Nacoonzi Cattery (oregonmainecoon.com) All our breeding cats receive an echo yearly. All our breeding cats see a veterinarian at least once a year for a full physical and updated shots. Finally, every kitten sees a licensed veterinarian before they leave us to ensure health.
Socialization begins at birth as we assist in each and every delivery. Each breeding is carefully monitored, and we know within a 24-hour window when kittens are coming. During the last week of pregnancy, the queen is with us 24/7. We handle all babies several times a day to calm them and get them used to humans. Kittens are blind and deaf at birth, eyes open anytime between 7-10 days, and they can hear around 18 days old. You get to enjoy watching your baby grow with us on our private Facebook page because we post pictures and videos many times a week, Plus, we do zoom calls once a week after kittens have been awarded. Kittens join their new family at 11-12 weeks of age. Each kitten leaves us with 30-day FREE Trupanion pet insurance.
At 5 months of age we do genetic swab testing with Catscan and at 11 months of age we do echo cardiograms with a licensed Veterinarian.
